It is humbling isn’t it? No matter who you are, music can reduce you to My Heart Will Go On mush. You can be 60-year old linguistics professor at Harvard and still find something to relate to in a Celine Dion ballad because the feelings are so universal. If a song is able to relate to you, then it has served its purpose. They may be mistakes, they may be miracles, but they are actions and that speaks louder than any song. “It’s better to burn out, than to fade away.” We often think we cannot make a difference, but listen to Gandi and Bob Dylan. Maybe we choose to just over look it or turn our heads to the troubles around us. Just like the wind, enlightenment and knowledge can be right in front of us, yet we cannot see it. “How many ears must one man have before he can hear people cry? Yes, and how many deaths will it take ’til he knows that too many people have died?” That is why when we get it, we know how lucky we are and hold on to it for dear life. It brings us security and comfort, yet, it is never guaranteed, and it does not owe us anything. Love is the most amazing thing in the world. So lyrically simple, but never better put. No matter how tough situations get, just be real and be true. “An honest man’s pillow is his peace of mind.”Ī clear conscience is the freeing of worry, of guilt, of disappointment. Some of those things might not make the least bit of sense, but who are we to judge. They all have reasons for why they are the way that they are and the things that they do. “Before you accuse me, take a look at yourself.” Artist: Bo Diddley Creedance Clearwater Revival Eric Clapton Focus on the things in life you love, not the things in life you hate. It is like their way of justifying their own misery. Unfortunately, some people will bring you down with their misfortune before they ever see you succeed. It dares to speak about some of the evil in the world and ugliness of society. This song spoke from a misfit’s perspective. “Bent out of shape from society’s pliers, cares not to come up any higher, but rather get you down in the hole that he’s in.” People love this song because it’s about focusing less on superficial flaws and more on your inner promise. If you want brutal honesty, you just might get it. “Don’t ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.”Įveryone has their shortcomings and if we honestly acknowledged each others, well then, oh wait, we already do that. So look out for those new beginnings because they may first appear as scary and painful. If you lose something you cherished, an opportunity, a love, a life, then that fresh start might bring you more than you ever thought you could have. It is a belief in a new way of thinking and looking at the world a little differently. The optimism to the unknown is beautifully depicted in this song. “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” The apprehension and rocky decision of whether or not to save a relationship can be so difficult, especially when love isn’t the problem. “Fear is the lock and laughter the key to your heart.”īringing some Woodstock to the countdown, this song was release in 1969. Not everyone is going to like it, heck, some folks don’t even like chocolate. Let authentic words be the same authentic actions. So it may sound a little Shakespeare, but Frank Sinatra seemed to make the best sense of being true to you. To say the things he truly feels, and not the words of one who kneels.” “For what is a man? What has he got? If not himself – Then he has naught. So we don’t get “lost in the music,” we will talk the top 10 and their makers and why these lyrics are so iconic. Sputnik Music created a list of the top 100 song lyrics of all time. Somehow the best music lyrics sum up questions or feelings we have stretched out for years in just a few short minutes. History has searched for words to explain our thoughts, but I believe they are best told with a melody. They led us to that concert that was life-changing. But not all songs are a heart break recap. It is not even the songs that make us a bundle of emotion, it’s the music video we play in our heads while staring out the car window. We were all born with a beat to our hearts and we have created beautiful symphonies, electric guitars, and the Macarena. Music is life with so many stories to tell. It is our underpaid therapist, our universal religion, our imagination and hope. Throughout his 27 years in the industry, he has been lead by his vision of taking tattooing to the next level. After getting his first tattoo that same year, he never looked back.Ĭhris Taylor is not only a tattoo artist, but an enthusiast and avid collector of tattoo history. He began his apprenticeship under Rabbit in 1992, at the age of 15. Chris has been intrigued by the art of tattooing since the age of 10 when he met his would-be mentor, James “Rabbit’ Sanders. Now to introduce the man not only crazy enough to dream it, but passionate enough to chase down those dreams, the Indy Tattoo Expo creator, Chris Allen Taylor. Indy Tattoo Expo is celebrating the history of tattooing and the growth of our Industry. A rabbit with a tattoo gun placed inside its outline in memory of her father, and sugar skulls (calaveras) with beautiful bright colors and intricate lines show she is no rookie to getting ink.Embassy Suites by Hilton Plainfield Indianapolis Airport For example, one of our returning tattoo artists that was supposed to attend actually passed away suddenly and so we have organized a silent auction where the proceeds will go to his family.” Finally, she showed me some of her pieces, done by a few different artists. They would do anything for each other, it truly is a family. “Well, most people have a lot of preconceived notions of what they’re walking into!” And people here truly are so nice. When asked about what her favorite part of the expo is, she was quick to reply to the sense of family all artists and attendees feel. After walking around, I looked at him and said ‘yep, let’s do it!’” The expo is now in its second year of running (originally supposed to begin in 2020, but postponed due to Covid-19), and has grown from 123 artists in its first year to now 167 in total. We visited Hell City together, which is another expo. As Chris began to do work on and for me, he started mentioning the idea of running an expo in honor of Jim. Chris started an apprenticeship under him when he was fifteen. “My dad, Jim Sanders (nicknamed Rabbit), was a tattoo artist in the early 80’s. I was able to sit down with Trina Sanders-Sowers, who told me all about the backstory of the Indy Tattoo Expo, what she loves most about it, and the legacy of her late father she hopes to keep alive in running the event. It was interesting to see the minimal changes to the pieces. In three large cases, he carries tools from the early 1900’s to modern day. If you want it, do it.” We finished our conversation with a little history lesson of tattoo guns he slacks around to conventions such as this. And if anyone questions why you got a piece, just let them know… “because I wanted it! Having a tattoo is the one thing you can spend money on that will last you your entire life. Having tattoos on your body, you have to have some tough skin. A tattooed man himself, who made sure I knew that he was pushing 80, told me some great jokes and sprinkled in some great advice about life and tattoos. One of my favorite moments from the expo was my time spent with Mike Skiver. At the Indy Tattoo Expo, there truly is an artist for everyone. As an artist myself, it was quite inspiring to see no two styles exactly alike. Featuring such a large diversity of artistic style spanning from American Traditional, New School, to watercolor, heavy saturation, photorealism, and more, flipping through books of flash will make hours feel like minutes and minutes feel like nanoseconds. It is quite easy to get lost within the rows of artists. “Hi, how are you?” “Take a sticker!” “How are you enjoying the expo so far?” It might have just been my blank skin that clued the artists into my naiveness of tattoo conventions, but I noticed interactions between most attendees and artists were the same as mine. Safety measures such as this have solidified the sense of community and general empathy the artists present diffused.Īnother thing one might notice, in tandem with their free food and candy, was the sense of familiarity you were guaranteed to be greeted with at any table you might stop by. While the promise of free food might be reason enough to lure in potential clients, it is also extremely important to keep blood sugars high while getting tattooed to prevent feelings of illness or faintness. Bowls of apples, oranges, bananas, packages of muffins, and chewy candies scattered the rows of artist tables. Primarily, the abundance of fruit and snacks provided at almost every table. Spending less than half an hour at the expo, there are a few things you will notice immediately. Cubist paintings represented the composite idea of objects that we have. Transforming natural forms into cylinders and cubes, painters like Juan Gris and Robert Delaunay, driven by Braque and Picasso. , since these are rather late works by Picasso, which can no longer be attributed to any of the currents. For this reason, Cubism was often seen as an art of conception rather than perception. In Cubism, shape is more important than colour. Its distinctive features are the direct use of geometric shapes, a narrow circle of subjects (portraits, still lifes or buildings), deformation, angularity, complete lack of realism. cubisme) is a recognizable art movement that originated at the beginning of the 20th century, and many of its techniques are still in demand. The founding fathers urged to stop adoring the art of the past, and to exalt the industrial spirit of the future: to draw airplanes, cars, metal bridges, steamers and other achievements of the progress. A style of painting originated by Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso in the first two decades of the twentieth century. Early Cubist paintings were often misunderstood by critics and viewers because they were thought to be. Some ironically called it scandalous cubism. Picasso and Braque worked together closely during the next few years (190912)the only time Picasso ever worked with another painter in this wayand they developed what came to be known as Analytical Cubism. Cubism, a Modern art movement founded in 1907 in Paris, France, is a type of art that focuses on a single theme. This was the 'idea.' For example, pick up any ordinary cup. This style of painting revolutionised modern abstract art during the. The art movement developed in the first quarter of the 20th century, mainly in Italy and Russia. It is a conceptual approach to realism in art, which aims to depict the world as it is and not as it seems. In 1907, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque founded the art movement known as Cubism. A very thin line separates it from the concept of “modernism”. Picasso was an artistic prodigy who could. Avant-garde is how modern art critics refer the general trend of new artistic directions that arose in world art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. A work of art is cubist when the artist opts to break up objects and re-assemble them in abstract and geometric form. The trail - visitors are invited to take their own self-guided tour - winds over and around huge slabs of rock that appear to have dropped from the ceiling in some hopefully long-ago eon, past formations with familiar cave names: The Castle, The Bridal Veil, Goliath, and the infamous War Club. The cave itself is a big chamber, over a thousand feet long and ten stories high. We are grateful for the Sand Worm that bored this impressive tube. The entrance used to be straight down, via a spiral staircase, but Steve tells us that a lot of visitors got hurt slipping on the wet metal steps. It looks like it leads to a World War III Congressional nuclear bunker - which, in fact, is a few miles down the road in White Sulphur Springs. Lost World Caverns is entered through a long, concrete tunnel. "The question that everyone eventually asks is, 'How did he eat?' And then, 'How did he go to the bathroom?'" Steve shrugs. Steve is more reluctant to talk about this than about Bat Boy. In 1971 a West Virginia caver named Bob Addis walked into the Caverns and perched atop a towering, 28-foot-tall stalagmite - "The War Club" - for almost 16 days, a Guinness World Record that still stands. "It's the most expensive property to maintain."īat Boy wasn't the first time that Lost World Caverns made the media's freak news spotlight. "The National Park Service WANTS to sell cave property to private owners," he tells us. His love of geology brought him here in 1999. And he used to work for the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a disaster "expert" - he hates that label - which makes him a good guy to be with if something bad happens in a cave. He has a killer tan for someone who runs an underground attraction. He lives at the cave, which might explain why its entrance building and gift shop are so immaculate. (With the exception of the guys at Secret Caverns, of course.)īut Steve Silverberg is not your typical cave owner. These are notably open-minded gestures, considering that cave people are generally conservative about their attractions. And he's thumbtacked a yellowed clipping of the original Bat Boy article to a bulletin board in the gift shop. He sent the off-Broadway production of "Bat Boy: The Musical" the helmets, caribiners, and equipment that were used in its opening number. What the owners of Lost World Caverns thought of that honor is lost to time, but its current owner, Steve Silverberg, embraces the notoriety. Bat Boy's shrieking face burned itself into the brains of a generation of rabid tabloid readers. In 1992, The Weekly World News claimed that Lost World Caverns was the home of "Bat Boy" - a large-eyed, fanged human child raised in complete darkness by bats. Also, there are about 350 stairs along the trek, and the entry/exit steps have a decent slope to them, so if you have issues with that type of obstacle, let that be a consideration."The War Club" stalagmite, where spelunker Bob Addis perched for two weeks. Just a couple quick final notes: Some of the rocks are slippery due to water. I won’t talk much about the cave, but I will let the pictures speak for it.Īll in all, we decided it was absolutely worth the drive and money ($12 for adults $6 for kids). The tour was self-guided, but very well labeled. Upon entering the doors, we were greeted with a good sized gift shop (affordable stuff), and 3 employees who quickly welcomed us and checked us in. Fifteen minutes of farms and gravel roads we finally came upon the storefront for the caverns. We started seeing signs that directed us to a strip mall, but then we drove behind it. I will admit, on the way there I got a little confused by our scenery. Today, we explored the Lost World Caverns. Today’s family adventure took us to Lewisburg, WV well, more precisely it took us 120 feet below Lewisburg. While we are surrounded by lovely mountains, valleys, creeks, rivers, and wildlife, in West Virginia, there is more than just coal below the surface. One of the blessings of living in the Appalachian region is the beautiful scenery, but most people think it stops at the dirt. I was so motivated on Day 14 since I knew I had worked hard for two weeks straight to reach a common goal. I already feel so accomplished, but I know to finish off strong will be so beyond worth it. I push through the workouts and feel like I could take on the world afterward. I keep in mind that the end is near and that the results will be worth it. Whenever I see four videos, I want to give up, but I know that’s not an option. I already felt better overall after just five days of this challenge and was determined to keep pushing. Although there were no required workouts, I still wanted to keep myself active and prepared. I was relieved when I saw there were no exercises for day 5. She is known for her workout programs on YouTube, particularly her Two Week Shred Challenge which went viral on TikTok and YouTube during the pandemic in. If you’re just starting, I suggest beginning with one of Ting’s quicker workouts (this ab workout has over 300 million views for a reason) before moving on to her 30-minute, full-body circuits. Yet when I finished the workout, I felt refreshed, strengthened, and ready for Day 2. In terms of her program durations, they range from five minutes to more than 20 minutes over one week, two weeks, and entire month programs. It was easy due to the short workout session only containing two videos, but hard because of the fact that I hadn’t challenged myself this much since dance had stopped. The challenge started off easy but hard at the same time. Because of this, I wanted to give it a try and see what my own opinions would be. However, other reviews have exclaimed how it was a waste of time and disadvantageous. The recent reviews have mostly been positive people are raving about how beneficial the exercises are and how distinct the results come out to be. The workouts range from 25-50 minutes per day for 14 days depending on the number of videos and their lengths. Coincidentally, I’ve heard tons of mixed reviews on a new workout program that is blowing up: Chloe Ting’s 2 Weeks Shred Challenge.įor free, the program offers 2 to 4 varying videos of exercises that all target different muscles in hopes of strengthening them whether its abs, obliques, quads, or more. Personally, without dance in my life, I’ve chosen to mainly pursue fitness over break. Whether it’s mastering a new skill, cooking a meal, or picking up a good book, the possibilities are endless. Quarantine is an opportunity to better yourself. One way forward is urban tree planting, because when you plant trees you bring Nature into cities. JG: We have to revise and redesign our cities. How can people connect with Nature when they are so urbanised? People living in cities have little connection with Nature, and whatever Nature they have is all human-made. SK: But we live in the age of the Anthropocene, in a human-made world. That is what I call our spiritual connection with Nature. Being out in Nature gives you this amazing feeling of being one with the universe. So, if we human beings have souls, then all those other beings also have souls. I thought to myself, well, this is the great spiritual power of Nature that I feel all around me, I think there’s a spark of that spiritual power in each one of us, and because we’re human we like to name everything, so we call it a soul or a spirit, and I thought to myself, a little spark of that spiritual power is in every single plant and every single insect and every single animal. There were no chimps around, but there were birds and insects and beautiful foliage. I remember being out in the forest one day. JG: When I am out in Nature, particularly in the rainforest, and when I am on my own in Nature, I feel that I am an integral part of it. Could you expand on this idea of spiritual connection with Nature? But what do you mean when you say a spiritual connection with Nature? Generally, we talk about looking after the planet, looking after people, improving environmental conservation and social harmony. SK: We need to learn from Nature, learn in Nature and learn about Nature. Schools need to tell young people about climate change and about all the things that humankind is doing that are harmful to Nature. Young people as well as people at large need to establish a spiritual connection with the natural world. Young people are changing the world, they’re changing their parents and they’re changing their grandparents! In our Roots & Shoots programme, they choose projects that they feel deeply about, to help people, to help animals, to help the environment, because it’s all interrelated. One of my greatest reasons for hope is the young people, because once they understand the problems, they take action – they just go with it. Supposing we all followed that rule, wouldn’t it be a fabulous world? That gives me hope! If the whole world would respect the rights of Nature, what a different world it would be! Every major culture has the same golden rule: do to others as you would have them do to you. The court told the government that they had to remove all of their mining concessions from places that were protected. Recently, an absolute landmark decision was made in Ecuador, where the Constitutional Court, the highest court of law, upheld the rights of Nature. If we lose hope, why bother? Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die! When you have hope, you take action, and you see that you are making a difference and that makes you feel good, and if you feel good, you want to feel better, so you want to do more, and then other people get inspired, so it’s a, sort of, outward spiral gathering in more people as it goes.Īlthough we’re surrounded by doom and gloom, there are also so many amazing things happening. If we lose hope, that’s the big disaster. We have to roll up our sleeves and crawl under and climb over all the obstacles between us and that star of light. Well, we don’t just sit at our end of the tunnel and hope that light will come to us. I see us now as in a very dark tunnel, and at the end of this dark tunnel is a little star of light, and that’s hope. Jane Goodall: Well, first of all, let me explain what I mean by hope. You still maintain this deep hope in your heart. How do you maintain hope? We are surrounded by all these big problems like the pandemic, climate change and poverty. Satish Kumar: You have written this wonderful book, The Book of Hope. This article first appeared in the Resurgence & Ecologist magazine. She is a UN Messenger of Peace and a protector of wild chimpanzees. The Omega Institute in New York State gave me the opportunity to have this conversation with Jane Goodall, who is an outstanding champion of ecological sustainability and social harmony. you cant even get the stamp in co op play. dont know if you follow the community too much but about a year and half ago a speedrunner named garrett found a strat that is easy to replicate and can get you perfect games every time when you master it Incredibly easy because of the garrett strat. i got all stamps for it in about 10 minutes and that one on like my 3rd try for itĪlso no because if the a+2 thing. The fact that there is next to no room for error, and the fact that there is no way to easily cheese the challenge, puts it at number 1. It is not easy to maintain the level of play needed for -18 for that duration. Factoring in carefully planning out your shots to and on the green to make sure you can bag a birdie or even a eagle, an 18 hole game could take up to 30 minutes. The main factor that contributes to this stamp’s difficultly is simply the duration of it. Getting at least a birdie on every hole is a daunting task. Co-op play won’t do anything like it does in Canoeing, and there is no repeated motions like in 3 Point Contest as every hole is different. The canoe will move faster with multiple players, making it easier to reach the red tape, Even with this strat, this stamp is no easy feat, still requiring nearly perfect lines throughout each course. The lone way to cheese this stamp is by hooking up more then one controller. So then, why is this only number 2? Well, because “solo” is the key word here. Why? Because I believe that cutting the red tape on every level solo is the hardest challenge that this game has to offer. This stamp could have easily been number 1 on my list. The only factor keeping this stamp from being any lower is the recently found strategy that makes getting this stamp more consistent and bearable. Sometimes it feels like you throw the ball the exact same way, but one goes in and the other doesn’t. This may not be the hardest stamp in the game (at least in my opinion) but it is without a doubt the most annoying. If that little strat didn’t exist, this could have easily been lower on this list.ģ - Basketball 3 Point Contest - Pure Shooter Reason it’s so high on this list is because there is a way to instantly pop the balloons with A and 2, at the very least removing the worry of aiming and curving to hit the balloons. It’s really difficult to throw the thing even straight some of the time. I consider this stamp to be really hard because in my opinion, throwing the Frisbee is really weird to control. Ironically, I think a perfect game in the Standard Game is easier then simply all spares and strikes on this mode. It doesn’t help that I’m very inconsistent with the gutter strat. Most of the time, I end up with hard split conversions, forcing me to go for the gutter explosion to be sure I hit all the pins. I find it very hard to consistently get easy spares in this mode, much less strikes. This is a stamp that looks a lot easier then it actually is. |
